Avataq

Since 1980, the Avataq Cultural Institute has been a leading organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Inuit culture in Nunavik.

We work passionately to sustain the Inuktitut language, oral histories, art, and traditions through programs that strengthen cultural identity.

From capturing Elders’ knowledge to curating over 58,000 archival records, our archives document the depth and diversity of inuit tradition and cultural heritage. We empower community engagement through the Nunavik Elders’ Conferences and actively contribute to the protection and interpretation of Nunavik’s archaeological heritage.

Our open museum-storage facility in Montreal provides public access to Inuit cultural resources and offers opportunities for education and research. Our efforts ensure that Inuit knowledge thrives for future generations.

Avataq serves as a cultural and educational resource for Inuit communities and partners across the region and beyond.

We are committed to the preservation of Inuit cultural heritage and support ongoing development and enhancement. We’re not just preserving the past — we’re shaping a bold future where Inuit culture shines.
