Our Role
Since 1980, Avataq has been the heartbeat of Inuit culture in Nunavik, passionately preserving and celebrating the Inuktitut language, heritage, and traditions.
As a non-profit, we weave a vivid tapestry of Nunavik Inuit life through captivating programs — think language revitalization, captivating genealogy projects, hands-on archaeological adventures, and our inspiring Nunavik museum in Inukjuak!
We champion artists, elders, and youth, ensuring Inuit wisdom and creativity shine bright for generations.
Guided by the wisdom of the Nunavik Inuit Elders’ Conferences, we safeguard a treasure trove of oral histories, artifacts, and art that fuel community pride.
Avataq weaves the past into the present, igniting a bold future for Nunavik’s Inuit culture across Canada and beyond.
