Genealogy
Discover your roots with Avataq’s Genealogy service, dedicated to preserving Nunavik’s family histories.
Our Sources
We gather vital information from elders’ stories, church baptism records, government reports, Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) archives, and more. We also consult historical tapes, community population lists, and anthropologist charts to build comprehensive family trees.
Priority is given to expectant mothers seeking names tied to their heritage and students awaiting their family charts.
kinship charts
Kinship terms shared by elders at our Avataq Elders’ Conferences, alongside records from Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (previously the Kativik School Board (KSB)), help us create detailed visual charts to clarify family connections.
